There Are Two Centuries In Which
There are two centuries in which many considered slavery, a one of a kind institution, as an acceptable thing, moral or even completely normal. Faced with such cruelty, injustice and impunity, voices were raised in the United States and around the world. Today, nobody believes slavery is a good thing.
In the wake of a new millennium: What is the current situation of the African-American community regarding their civil rights? Survives a movement that seeks to defend these gains are achieved with so much effort? Half a century later, what is the legacy of that mobilization process that changed the American sociopolitical history?
Arguably much it began to change more than 150 years ago, but much has changed in 150 years. Currently, more than half of the African American community belongs to the generation after he starred in and carried out the struggle for the conquest of civil rights of minorities in the United States.
The aim of this study was to provide a study on the phenomenon of slavery in the United States of the Golden Age through its manifestation in literature and to what extent the literary treatment was related to the historical and ideological reality of the period here we are concerned. The texts and authors have been the most lighthearted witnesses and informants as a fact of life the same: that slavery existed, and if it is true that the popular feeling rejected well before legally was not abolished until the nineteenth century. Because in the United States, although the fact was much milder than in other countries and there was always a tendency to free the slaves, or at least to feel compassion for them, slavery was an institution commonly accepted as natural, own society and recognized by law. While the story just alluded to such a thorny fact or refers to it with not a few omissions, literature, however, he was interested with passion for this strange "world" of the slave and included it in his very particular universe of fictions and realities aesthetically intertwined, seemingly distant from the surrounding reality, but extremely revealing and certain artistic creation.
More than two centuries of violent resistance and suffered periodically in the United States of America by slaves before they could decree the abolition of slavery. Continuous and rooted discontent of slaves by the conditions existing submission was also resulting in continuous mechanisms of control and repression, increasingly manifest, in traditional areas and regions for slaves’ stronger roots.
Slavery involves finding a person under another ownership, group, or institution, such as a palace or a temple. In other words, slaves are property owners always available or their mistresses. in many societies, slaves or servants, they were given rights, but they were usually basic rights: the choice of husband or wife, a say as regards the fate of children in the right to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Historically, slavery meant, by definition, denial of equality between men and philosophers, from Aristotle, sometimes describes them as a breed apart and slaves lower. In fact, most individuals became slaves following their capture or were abducted during wars. Other causes included punishing people for various offenses and poverty, which they lead some parents to sell their children as slaves; sometimes, some individuals were becoming slaves voluntarily.
Slavery seems to be the same age as a civilization, appearing along with any assets of the companies, for some being more profitable to enslave other human beings (In a society that produces just enough to feed their members, owning slaves do not offer no advantage).
Although slavery exists in most societies, its importance varies from one place to another, where slaves were domestic servants; their presence had a relatively small impact on the organization of society and generally was treated quite well. But in societies where slave labor was widely used to produce crops or bring profit to extract precious metals vigorously they were exploited and guarded carefully. The character of these companies was entirely influenced by the existence of such kinds of slavery productive.
The problem of the admission of these territories in the American Union as slave states, led to a series of political crises and the emergence of a movement militant abolitionist in North. This provoked a reaction as we can in the south.
Southerners began to consider slavery an "own institution," a good positive justified the supposed inferiority of blacks against the appearance of the aristocratic lifestyle in the south.
Although Southerners claimed that slaves were happy with their way of life, this which it was denied by riots and isolated by increasing the number of fugitives who were helped by abolitionists to arrive in Canada, where they became free.
Separation increasingly more pronounced between North and South was illustrated by American politics, the Republican Party taking anti-slavery position we can. The party’s candidate for president, Abraham Lincoln, pledged that it will stop the spread of slavery, but will not seek its abolition, where it had been legalized, for the simple reason that the president was not allowed to interfere in the countries’ own arrangements. However, when Abraham Lincoln was elected.
In 1860, most slave states felt too threatened to remain in the Union, for which seceded from it and have formed their own union, known as the Confederacy. This step caused disturbances bloody and long.
Inland, Lincoln declared illegal separation and conflicts erupted, led to the American Civil War of 1861-1865. Theoretically, the war was not waged against slavery, but in 1863, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, that all slaves in the Confederacy became free action considered an emergency measure. After the Union victory Nordic states in the Confederacy and Southern slavery was abolished. In 1865, a constitutional amendment outlawed throughout the United States.
Until the 20th century, slavery had disappeared from most regions of the world. It has remained an institution legally in some states and in the Arabian Peninsula, which was abolished only in 1962 in some remote areas, slavery was maintained until 1970, and some forms of slavery recent (e.g. enslaved because they cannot pay their debts) have not yet been deleted.
The problem of black slaves in America and the Holocaust imposed in the collective consciousness the idea that racism is not a true invention and an attribute of whites. First, between slavery and racism cannot always put an equal sign.
