As Now The World Is Of Technology
As now the world is of technology and everything goes on it .GPS is one of the major factor that exists because of advancement of technology. But as we know every coin have two faces ,same as it is. It provide many advantages like navigation is easy ,a person can travel from one place to another through GPS which works by google maps on users window. Major advantage is it works in every climatic condition. It gives 100% coverage on every planet. Not only helps in searching destinations but also helps in searching nearby hotels, restaurants and gas stations. In water bodies also, it works. But as already discussed, every pros has cons too so similarly this has. They are sometimes GPS fails due to some reasons for which we have to carry map or guide book as a backup. If GPS is being used on battery device then battery failure may also be a problem in which case GPS stops working .Similarly there are many threats like this.
As every person has its own review ,same as it is here below two theories given by two different is shown that what they think about GPS.
Hughes Theory
In 1991, Hughes concluded that every technology and technological change must have economical, political and technical factors. Relationship between GPS technology and political factors was analysed through that report. In that case, U.S government realized that GPS is useful and powerful technology and that was the reason that they agreed to spent a lot of money in its research (El-Rabbany , 2002). As already discussed that GPS was built to increase military might of U.S and used for military purposes but it further came with political power (Andrade, 2001).It is evident as in 1991, Navster GPS ‘s use was made for Persian Gulf War with which it further gave U.S an advantage to overcome the Iraqis forces. For that positioning device, it increased its control all over the land vehicles, aircrafts, ships and precision-guided weapon around the whole world. A huge advantage was given to U.S military as U.S got victory from Iraqis.
Winner’s Theory
In 1998,Winner present some theories that explains relationship among politics and certain technology. GPS, as discussed above was developed by U.S military, although politics was main supplier in providing support for developing that technology. In that,it can be seen that military department was the only one that developed GPS but its development was covered for some of the political needs. U.S government needed the technology that could help in monitoring movements of governments all around the world so it may prove advantageous for them and they wish to wage war against the U.S. For researching and developing of GPS, a huge funding sum is required. This was supported by Winner’s theory that the technology appears to be required or to be strong compatible within particular kinds of powerful relationships. With that Winner’s theory, it was concluded that for creation of GPS politics was the main driving force. That conclusion was made after looking all the political factors as these are the only one that help in governing government money’s distribution and funds.Through this,GPS was provided with the necessary funds for beginning operations.
Ideal Characteristics of Global Positioning Systems
Specific factors must be put into consideration for obtaining accurate information from GPS during acquisition of its GPS tools. Firstly, GPS tools must be durable for ensuring that these are capable of withstanding rigors work with continuous usage. Secondly, ability of GPS tools for obtaining and maintaining the most reliable signals strength despite its existence in many obstructions like location, any change in weather conditions and the most important is sensitivity of the receiver. Thirdly, GPS components mostly make power consumption use and therefore, life of battery becomes an annoying factor that considers during its acquisition with GPS equipment. Another noteworthy features that are included are portability ranges, distance from satellites so that it may easily acquire and cellular signal reliability, its configuration complexities and ease of its use as compared to others.
GPS Competitors
Wide Are Augmentation System is the closest competitor of GPS technology which includes ground station and satellites that are capable to provide accurate positioning. Wide Are Augmentation System technology was introduced by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The best way to explain this is by giving example that is closer to it and no one can be more closer than the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS). The program of WAAS was developed for the specific reason for assisting pilots in determining their direct en routing paths, also for identification to precision approach services to runways and for ensuring highest capacity and for protection, it is safe as it shows improvements in all weather conditions. WAAS users requires to have WAAS-capable receivers that enable them in obtaining signals in that areas which are covered by WAAS satellites.
Satellite frequencies
All of the satellites are broadcasted with two similar frequencies that are 1.57542 GHz (L1 signal) and 1.2276 GHz (L2 signal). The network that satellite uses is a spread-spectrum technique in which message with low-bitrate data is encoded with high-rate pseudo-random (PRN) sequence which is totally different concept for each and every satellite. Receiver should be aware that PRN codes for every satellite must reconstruct what the actual message data is. The code for civilian use is C/A code that transmits data on 1.023 million chips as per second whereas the code used for military use that is P code, only transmits 10.23 million chips per second.10.22999999543 MHz is actual internal reference for compensating relativistic effects which makes a different time reference for observers on earth with respect to the transmitters in orbit.
