The pomegranate is a shrub that belongs to the genus  Punica  and the family  Lythraceae.  This shrub usually grows to a height of 10 meters and has an extremely long lifespan. Some recorded specimens are over 200 years old. Pomegranates are cultivated for their fruits, which are bright red. Technically, the fruit is a berry with seeds produced from a single flower’s ovary. Alternatively, the trees are also cultivated for ornamental purposes in domestic gardens and parks. This shrub can be grown in relatively dry areas; they are also tolerant of frost, able to survive in temperatures ranging from -10 to 12 °C.
